About The Lost Shelf

Hey, I'm Julie

I am the founder of The Lost Shelf. I’ve worked for over a decade in the social sector and, most recently, in support of public safety through justice reform. I am a graduate student studying for my Master’s in Library and Information Science and have my BA as a double major in Psychology and Women & Gender Studies. I’m queer and here, and I have two cats named Bill and Donna. At the moment, it's just lil ol’ me on staff, but I would be remiss to say I was alone. I have immense love and support from the shop’s patrons, supporters, and my friends and family.

Right, so let's see. Overall, this ongoing discovery looks like asking myself how The Lost Shelf can be an advocate for joy and safety through books. Particularly for historically marginalized and misrepresented people. Joy and safety, for me, have continued to find their home in books, stories, and discoveries.  I’ve always wanted to have a bookshop and exist around books and feel the magic of having a book follow me home.

Books wrap us up and allow us to get lost in their stories. A good bookshop or library, amongst many things, hosts safe spaces to read and experience that feeling of getting lost. I wanted that feeling to exist outside of the bookshop or library,  thus the start of my own little home library of books. It had just two or three books on a small shelf and invited me to recreate the bookshop and library nook in my own space. Although my collection has since grown, the feeling of creating space to get lost in a good book doesn’t change.

The Lost Shelf is a bookshop with the mission to bring magic to your own space by curating your home library and your own lost shelves, whether adding to an existing collection or starting anew. Through The Found Book Project, I’m donating books to those who ask and would like to start or build an at-home library but could use some help.

Ok, that’s all I got for now. Oh, wait, someone (thank you) has asked if I drop ship. I don’t drop ship, I purchase and store books in-house, and they are packaged and shipped from me, small business style. If you have questions, feel free to email hello@thelostshelf.co.  Hmm, let me add creating an FAQ to the to-do list…

As always, get lost with us, today and every day.
